What do you think about kids from the age of 3 or 4 taking musical instrument lessons like piano or violin?

It just seems like you’re forcing your child to learn something when he/she could spend the early childhood having fun. I’m not saying stop the child from the playing on instruments lying around for fun but I mean, instantly enrolling them for classes in that instrument.

I thinkl they are a bit young to learn at that age. Maybe 6 or 7 or 8! Mexxia
Yeah i dont believe in it. If you want your child to play an instrument, dont start at like 3 seriously?
I mean do it when their like 5 or something. Amber
If they already have the interest, fine. But if they don’t, no. We should let kids be kids & let them enjoy their childhood while they still can. Carl_the_Truth
I think it is Ok if they actually want to learn, but if they dont stay focused and concentrate, they wont be able to make any progress.
But anyway, they can hardly read word, let alone musical notation! Lollmania
I cite my own career: Started trumpet at 9 – alright
Played professionally at 13 –wrong Warren
If learning to play an instrument is taught right, The child will have lots of fun doing it.
The reasoning that a child should just have fun and not be taught, is why some kids develop the idea of life is only a game. Kab
No, I believe it’s one of the most wonderful (tangible, I suppose) gifts a parent can give their child! Personally I wish I had had lessons at that age, it really gives you an advantage when you start playing seriously and learning music at that age (I know from witnessing it) I swear will just make the kid smarter. There’s lots of proof, scientific and statistical, that it helps with mathematical reasoning. Annnd I guarantee it will make the kid love music, earlier! And music = love.
Obviously though, there’s a limit of what can be expected of kids ages 3 or 4. Lessons 1-3 times a week would do it. As long as the parents don’t push! Meredith
