I want to play schoenfield’s cafe music but we dont have a piano player. What instruments are typically used to replace a piano?

Not many instruments can match the pitch range of the piano. You could try a guitar. Or a harp :D But, I doubt you have a harpist. Jay (TYO)

Guitar and harp are both good, as the previous answer said, because they both have a very broad range. However, guitar doesn’t sound very good with classical music and harpists are rare and difficult to find.

It really depends what the range is for the piano part. If it’s only in the middle, you could try to find a viola player, or even another violinist. Also, if the range for the piece is higher, you could try a flutist. Ana

Nothing. You would kill the wit as well as the point of the piece altogether. Don’t go there: your cafĂ© dansant would be utterly threadbare…

    All the best, Nemesis

    Either get a pianist
    or another piece. Rachel _Not_Idiot

Get the violin to play the treble line in the piano, and the cello, the bass line.

The mechanics of doing this — if you don’t want to do the parts in a computer program like Finale, yourself — might be just to buy a second piano part, so each instrument can read their own copy. I’d mark the player’s line with a yellow marker (if this is for a gig) and then do a lot of rehearsing to work through the kinks. Anna
